Metacognition is defined as the process of thinking about thinking. This means reflecting about one’s current progress ,future objectives and the routes to get there making it relevant to all aspects of learning.
Within the e-learning context, students’ awareness of how they engage with the process of learning has an effect on how they interpret tasks assigned to them and the strategies they employ to complete those tasks or assignments. This also help them regulate and control their own ability to learn and
and think. For example, being aware of the fact that you find
it difficult to cross busy/crowded roads or remember the way to your home is a sign of your metacognitive self.

When students become metacognitively smart, it becomes easier for them to monitor themselves. Making the child self-
reliant and independent will help them achieve bigger goals  at earlier stages of life and will also help them deal with  the situation of today.
Here are a few benefits of developing metacognition in children.

1. Beyond spoon-feeding
Spoon feeding, in the long run, teaches nothing but the shape of the spoon! .
In the earlier days, all the notes were dictated in the classroom, they were made to learn the answers by heart, and the entire education boiled down to mere rote learning! However, in 1970
when Mr Flavell introduced the world to metacognition, the education system, saw a minor yet significant
revolution where students, teachers and parents became more aware of the importance of practical learning methods, and less importance was given to grades. Online learning and
creative methods of teaching have played a significant role
in triggering this revolution .
   2. Development of self-awareness
.       There’s a saying, “experience makes it possible to recognize mistakes”; however, it is no more than a saying now. It holds no weight because we know we are better than that. A child doesn’t need to spend a decade on developing problem-solving skills. Metacognition takes the children beyond their capabilities and helps them question themselves. Metacognitive knowledge  also makes children more self-aware and reliant, thus making them better individuals.
     3. Preparedness for unpredictable challenges
. The world has recently been forced into an entire change to  the approach of life differently. Such unpredictable situations call for desperate measures and preparedness for these challenges comes from one’s evolved emotional, social and intelligence
quotient. As a teacher, parent or mentor, you would obviously want your child to excel in every possible way and would want to do everything in your capacity to
ensure it happens. Helping the child develop metacognitive
skills is something which is in your capacity.

It is important for children and parents from all walks of
life to understand the necessity and benefits of self-awareness . Knowing what went wrong will help you upgrade your mental system without any external help. Eventually, the intelligent part of the brain begins to function like a well-oiled machine So, help your child with their online classes, help them understand themselves, encourage their curiosity, do not get tired of their relentless questions and make sure you help them become better individuals for a better individuals for a better world
